This year’s theme: PROFINET – The Backbone of Industrie 4.0
See below for a collection of photos from the PI booth at SPS/IPC/Drives 2015 in Nuremberg, Germany. After moving to Hall 2 last year, again the booth was located in Hall 2. The difference was, foot traffic was much greater than in 2014. Maybe people finally figured out we weren’t in Hall 9 any more?
Also, the booth went through a bit of a redesign. No longer is there a forum area for speakers to make presentations. As such, there’s more room to display products. These were located on dedicated Process Automation (PROFIBUS PA), Industrie 4.0 (PROFINET), Safety (PROFIsafe), and IO-Link walls. Of note, on the Process Automation wall was an Endress & Hauser flow meter with a PROFINET interface. It included a built-in web server too. The focus for the Industrie 4.0 walls were on the Technology and Use Cases. First, the Technology: PROFINET allows for Real-Time and TCP/IP traffic on the same cable (critical!), makes it easy to connect from the sensor to the cloud (Ethernet!), and is standardized (open!). Second, the Use Cases: we at PI ‘have our finger on the pulse’ of the needs in industrial automation. As such, we want to make sure to cover as many IIoT / Industrie 4.0 Use Cases as we can. Instead of just developing technology for technology’s sake, the focus remains on developing technology that makes life easier for the end-users.
