In case you missed some of these items in other blogs, let me point you in the right direction. Gary Mintchell has recently blogged about PROFIBUS and PROFINET. In “ProfiNews” (I knew we should have trademarked that word), Gary points out that GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms has standardized on PROFIBUS and PROFINET. ABB has long used the technologies, but only recently joined PTO. They have been active in global PI activities since the beginning. Remember that our organizational structure is unlike any of the other fieldbus organizations – our international organization is made up of the regional organizations like PTO. In the others, there is a central organization which creates regional sub-groups. One take-away from all this activity: other Industrial Ethernets each have controllers available from only one manufacturer; PROFINET has controllers from many and the number is growing.
In “Profibus comes to NI,” Gary reports on National Instruments’ PROFIBUS products. These were shown at ISA Expo last year.

“Forget what your mama or your preacher taught you. The Golden Rule does NOT work for developing marketing strategy.” That’s one of the “marketing secrets” blogged at “Top Experts Dish with their Best Kept Marketing Secrets.” Actually, the rule he proposes as a replacement sounds even better: “Do Unto Your Customers As THEY Would Like To Be Treated.” [BTW, the Golden Rule the preacher teaches is here.]
