All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Watching Star Trek

A convergence of Star Trek news hit my desk[top] recently.  “What If the Starship Extraprize Had a DCS?”  asks a chapter in the eBook A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Control Room by Gregory K. McMillan.  [I like it even though I don’t think Trek and Wars blend well.]

Scotty goes to space (“Beam Me Up, Scotty”).

Do you identify with Scotty in this exchange?

Capt. Kirk: Another technical journal, Scotty?

   Scotty: Aye.

Capt. Kirk: Don’t you ever relax?

   Scotty: I am relaxing.

If the blog title sounds familiar, maybe it’s because you read the book: All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Watching Star Trek.

I guess the Enterprise did not use PROFIBUS or PROFINET so maybe you still have something to learn.  (While not the Enterprise, but many other US Navy aircraft carriers use PROFIBUS.)  If you are in learning mode for PROFIBUS you can find a one-day training event in Nashville tomorrow (May 1).  For PROFINET, St. Louis on May 2.  It’s not too late; register now!  (Or pick a later class.)  It will be even more relaxing than a technical journal!
