Off-topic warning – at least off the PROFI topic. On the engineering topic though.
PI North America has five PROFIs – PROFINET, PROFIBUS, PROFIenergy, PROFIsafe, and PROFIdrive. Arizona is known for its five C’s – climate, citrus, cattle, cotton, and copper. I posted about a modern copper mine in Engineer’s Holiday. I celebrated the completion of the General Assembly Meeting by heading to the former copper mining boom town and former ghost town of Jerome, Arizona. I had been there long ago when it actually was a ghost town, shortly after the mines closed. Now it’s a thriving tourist town with a population of 442. Down from the 15,000 in its heyday though. The destination was the former Douglas mansion and current Jerome State Historic Park for some mining history.
Here are some of my pictures from the trip (click for larger image):
- Ghost City sign that I remember is long gone.
- Looks like the sign was not originally by that panel.
- These are probably laser-powered and digital today.
- Now that’s a fuse puller!
- Scary that I have slide rule, 3-sided scale, and the exact same drafting kit.
- Fuses look like some you can buy today.
- Looking down a mine shaft – if the Empire State Building was at the bottom, you would fall 750 feet before hitting the top
- Museum and Audrey head frame over mine shaft with Verde Valley in the background.
- Looking back from the museum and the head frame and mine tailings from when they switched to open pit mining.
