I am reaching out to this forum to get comments and suggestions about the best approach to follow where a Profinet communication in between plc controllers is required.
The main question I have is the physical way to connect them. the controllers have to be connected through a cable reel with reeling speeds up to 180 metres/minute. there are sliprings to take the signal out of the reel and connect it to the controller on a crane.
We used ASi bus and a ASi to Profibus gateway to connect both controllers before, but we had a lot of faults on the comm. bus. probably because of the speeds of the cable. I am wondering if a profinet comm cable can be embedded on the reeling cable (the one used with the ASi was a CORDAFLEX PRYSMIAN 5DH3 290) or shall we use f/o and converters on the ends.
Your comments are very appreciated.
Thanks and regards
