    Hello,
I am very new to Profinet and at the very beginning of a project to create a Profinet slave device. Can you give a rough estimate of effort to implement CLASS A versus CLASS B? Only looking for a (very) rough estimate.

    Thanks

    Hello DJ,

The real difference between Conformance Class A and Conformance Class B is a SNMP server. So, if you implement PROFINET with a chip or module, there is no marginal cost to move from a Conformance Class A implementation to a Conformance Class B implementation – they already have it baked in. If you implement PROFINET with a software stack with an external SNMP server, then the extra cost will be the time and effort involved to wire the PROFINET and SNMP code together. If your PROFINET stack includes a SNMP server, there’s not really a marginal cost.
